Who we are

Everyone has heard it said that second language acquisition is natural and
effortless for young children. But what about for the adult learner?

Dígame was founded in 2003 by Camille Martínez, a Chicago native who herself learned Spanish as an adult. Camille believes that the adult student can learn a foreign language to very near-native fluency, particularly Spanish in the United States, where opportunities for daily interaction with native speakers abound.

Our methods combine the best elements of traditional teaching styles and immersion techniques. We work from a textbook and limit class size to six, so that each student receives the time and attention they need to bridge the gap between Spanish as a grammatical formula, and Spanish as a spoken and ever-changing language.

Why "Dígame"?

"Dígame" is a formal command that means "Tell me", and it's what some Spanish speakers say when answering the phone. In the Spring of 1990, while living with a family in Sevilla in southern Spain, Camille regularly heard the mom, Pepi, answer the phone using "Dígame". The expression has been etched on her soul ever since.

¡Gracias por todo Pepi, Pili, Toni, Loli y Maribel!
